The closest election in Schoharie County this year.

The closest election in Schoharie County this year has finally wrapped up in the Town of Conesville, where incumbent Republican Town Councilman Carl Fancher has narrowly defeated Democratic challenger Erica Weiss to secure a second term.

Although Mr. Fancher led on Election Night by 11 votes, there were enough absentee ballots left to be counted that prevented the race from being called until the Schoharie County Board of Elections tabulated those baker’s dozen of ballots.

Ms. Weiss was able to capture a majority of absentee ballots, but it wasn’t enough. Ultimately, Mr. Fancher won the election by 8 votes, securing 116 votes to Ms. Weiss’ 108 votes.

Additionally, incumbent GOP Town Councilman Robert Proudman, Sr. was re-elected to a fourth term with 159 votes, while Democratic newcomer placed fourth with only 77 votes.
